On both iOS and Android, reading Wi-Fi signal strength requires the platform's location permission — that's an operating-system rule, not our choice. We use location and motion only during an active coverage test, to tag readings by room and estimate your home's size and floors. We don't track you outside a test. No. The coverage test needs nothing but your phone. Hardware only enters the picture if your results show rooms below the coverage minimum for your home — and even then, if you rent your router from your ISP, the first recommendation is often a free call to your provider.
Yes — Wi-Fi Validator measures the signal your devices actually receive, so it works with any router and any ISP. If you have provider equipment (Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T, Verizon Fios, and more), the app includes provider-specific advice and bridge-mode guides.
